Post Secondary

The BCGEU bargains agreements for approximately 4,800 trades instructors (instructors) and administrative professionals (support) working in the post-secondary sector across B.C. at the following institutions:

Instructors: Camosun College, Coast Mountain College, Northern Lights College, Okanagan College, Selkirk College

Support: British Columbia Institute of Technology, Coast Mountain College, Douglas College, Justice Institute of BC, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Northern Lights College, Okanagan College

Common agreements are negotiated with the Post-Secondary Employers’ Association (PSEA) by two BCGEU bargaining committees:

  • the Post-Secondary Instructors Bargaining Committee (IBC – who represent members working as instructors at the above institutions); and
  • the College and Institute Support Service Bargaining Association (CISSBA – who represent members working as support).

A common agreement helps standardize collective agreements across the post-secondary sector in areas of common issues.

Local agreements with the individual employers are negotiated by the respective local bargaining committees. Local agreements address issues specific to the institution.

A key issue for all members working in post-secondary is meaningful wage protections.
